Hi and welcome to my blog
For those of you who don’t know me, allow me to introduce myself. While my ‘formal’ name is Jerrylyn Hyman-Green, most call me Jerl. I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. Technically speaking, raised in Pfafftown (pronounced Poff-town), just outside Winston city limits. Raised in the country on ‘granddaddy’s land’, I enjoyed good old-fashioned country living with horses, dogs, pigs, go-carts and lots of cousins!
I attended North Carolina State University with the intention of majoring in engineering, before discovering that I hated everything about engineering. Upon taking my first economics course, taught by, of all professors, Dr. David Hyman, I fell in love with all things economics (it didn’t hurt that we shared a last name). After earning a BA in Econ, I joined the management program of a local bank and began my professional career as an Assistant Branch manager. After three years, I switched professions and joined the airline industry where I stayed for the next 15 years, flying around the friendly skies as a flight attendant for a brief period, ultimately landing in the training department, designing curriculum and facilitating flight attendant and pilot classes, integrating new aircraft into the fleet, serving on FAA aircraft certification teams, and as a ditching subject matter expert (think Sully landing on the Hudson). I’d found my niche!
After enjoying my time with the airline, I came home to raise 3 amazing humans. I wish I could take credit for that adjective, but it’s more ‘in spite of myself’ than ‘because of me’ that they are so amazing. Every day, I am grateful for who they have and continue to become.
When I’m not working, I can be found spending time with my grown children when we can pause our busy lives long enough to gather, with close friends that I’ve been blessed to have in my life or on my patio or out enjoying nature. Some of my favorite pastimes include curling up with a favorite book, board games, card games, traveling, singing, dancing and wild, let-your-hair-down worshipping! God has been extremely good to me and I seek every day, albeit imperfectly, to please Him in all things.
Join me each week for new posts, thoughts and great ‘girl connection’!
Thank you for stopping by and I look forward to sharing, learning, listening, crying and growing with you!
